A popular saying is that the path to success is not a straight line. This sometimes leads to various detours such as studying aircraft development, working as a writer, spying on bitcoin (BTC), and exploring the blockchain space.

In an interview with , Ahmet Usta shared his journey from childhood passion for technology to the founder of several successful Web3 projects focused on blockchain games and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

Usta studied aerospace engineering at Istanbul Technical University in Turkey mainly because of his passion for technology. After that, he pursued a career in information technology and worked for various companies. Ten years later, Usta found himself in a strange situation. He said:

“By some strange coincidence, I ended up as a technical writer and editor. I have written about technology for Bloomberg Businessweek Turkey and many other publications.”

Then Bitcoin came along, catching Usta’s attention as he “had a close eye on it.” Fascinated by the technology behind cryptocurrencies, Usta co-authored Turkey’s first book on blockchain and then went on to work as a blockchain specialist giving speeches, seminars and training companies on the topic.

Back in 2021, the entrepreneur was working on a blockchain gaming project that integrated NFTs. Once successful, he turned the project over to his partner to focus on a longer-term business called ELYT, which recently raised new funds to connect brands and influencers to Web3 technology.

Asked why he thinks it’s important for brands to use Web3 technologies such as NFT, Usta said that NFT is more than an application. This is a new way of thinking. He explained that:

“Innovation starts to sprout as soon as you start thinking in new ways. The rest is just an engineering and business challenge. The key is to be able to create real business models from a fresh perspective.”

The CEO also said that the possibilities in terms of NFT use cases are only limited by the human imagination. “The monkey’s visuals and game assets are nothing more than a tiny snowball rolling on an iceberg that appears to be above the water,” he said.

Usta believes that Web3 opens up a lot of possibilities. According to him, Bitcoin, Ethereum, NFTs and Decentralized Finance (DeFi) play their part in the world. He explained that:

“Bitcoin allowed for record keeping without the need for a centralized structure. For the first time in human history, this allowed the use of a decentralized trust protocol. Thanks to smart contracts, Ethereum has changed business processes.”

The Web3 entrepreneur also mentioned that NFTs limit the ownership of digital assets that could otherwise be played indefinitely, and believes the space will open up various other applications. Meanwhile, Usta also highlighted his belief that DeFi will play a vital role in the future of finance.
